House stumps are what support the house and over time these may deteriorate due to a number of factors. They are commonly found in houses that are not built on slabs, and in older houses, are
made of timber. Restumping is the process of replacing existing stumps that are found under the house. It is also known as house reblocking.
Typically, it is common for newer homes to be built with concrete or galvanized steel stumps, these are also used as replacement stumps and should last longer than wooden stumps. If it is
determined that your house requires to be restumped, your home will be slowly and gradually jacked up to the height required to remove the current stumps and replace (or in some cases remove
them completely). It is important to be mindful that although house restumping will prevent any further damage and eliminate the risk of collapses, the movement caused by jacking the house may
result in some issues to doorframes, tiles, or even further cracks in walls.
The first step to restumping a low house is to lift the house. Raising the house creates space so that foundation support beams and other equipment can be inserted beneath the house. However,
if a home is shallow, excavation may be required to insert the beams underneath it.
Attempting to restump your house as a DIY project is not recommended due to its inherent risks and complexities. Professional contractors should always be employed when restumping, as slight
mistakes while installing adjustable or typical house stumps could have catastrophic effects not only on the structural integrity of the house but the safety of the people living in it.
Leaving an unstable structure can cause further issues. By having an early assessment/treatment, will save further costs and lessen further damage from occurring. With early intervention among
sloping or sinking structures we can significantly reduce and prevent future building damage and erosion.
Uneven weight distribution in a house can cause the structure to sag or tilt. There might be cracks in walls separating patio slabs or doors and windows that do not close or open properly.

Upheaval is caused by water induced clay soil expansion under a house. The repair plan for upheaval may include selective underpinning, and/or actions to dry the soil, such as drainage
correction with surface drains or french drains.
Depending upon the number of piers, steel pier foundation repairs are completed in 1-3 days. Concrete foundation repair methods normally require 2-10 days.
